Apple - facing an online petition from thousands of users - removed an Apple iPhone app that condemned homosexual marriage, an activist Web site says. The application, called Manhattan Declaration, became available in October.
It called for “Christian conscience” and advocated “the sanctity of life, the dignity of marriage as the union of one man and one woman, and religious liberty,” ABC News reported Tuesday.
Change.org started an online petition on its Web site branding the declaration as “anti-gay” and “anti-choice” and criticized Apple for not removing it from the iTunes App Store. The group said more than 7,000 members e-mailed Apple their objections.
“Apple needs to hear from concerned people now! Lets send a strong message to Apple that supporting homophobia and efforts to restrict choice us bad business,” Change.org said on its site.
Apple said in a statement it removed the Manhattan Declaration software from its App Store “because it violated our developer guidelines by being offensive to large groups of people.”
