Broadway by iPhone: TKTS Launches App

Theatergoers looking to save money now can save time too: the Theatre Development Fund, which operates the TKTS Discount Booths, has launched an iPhone application that provides real-time updates on ticket availability.

Until now, TKTS customers were required to visit the booths in person in order to view the electronic boards listing Broadway and Off-Broadway shows with discounted tickets available for purchase. The app, released Tuesday, allows potential theatergoers to evaluate the menu of performances before they decide make the trek to one of the three booths, located in Times Square, at South Street Seaport and in Downtown Brooklyn.

TDF also launched a “Patron Services” team at the TKTS Times Square location. The on-site attendants are intended to help patrons “navigate the ticket buying process” and provide information on the content of the shows, the organization said in a statement.

The app will remain a free download until March 1. TDF is also working on an Android version of the app, it said Tuesday.
