CUPERTINO — Those applications that get downloaded to iPhones and iPads may not be a secure as originally thought Some popular apps may be giving private information to advertisers, without user consent.

The Wall Street Journal says it tested 100 applications. Of those, more than half sent out the unique device ID. Almost half gave out the device’s location. A handful transmitted age and gender information.
Effected apps include Pandora, TextPlus4, and the Paper Toss game.
