Ottawa police have arrested two youths in the theft of an iPhone from a blind University of Ottawa student last week.
On Friday night, members of the Ottawa police Direct Action Response Team (DART) arrested the youths.
They remained in custody and were scheduled to appear in court Saturday.
Victoria Francis, 25, was robbed of her phone last Thursday on the University of Ottawa campus.
When Francis took out her phone to send a text message, she only knew something was wrong by the sharp tug on her hair.
Seconds later, her valued iPhone was snatched from her hands and Francis had lost the tool that allowed her to send text messages.
When members of protection services arrived, an eyewitness gave them a description of the suspects.
Francis said the witness told her that a person had been lurking and watching her for some time before taking the phone.
The fourth-year psychology student said she couldn’t afford to buy a new iPhone 3GS, which came with speech software that allowed her to hear what was written on the screen.
Thanks to the generosity of three Rogers employees, Francis has a brand new iPhone 4.
All three used their $250 Rogers gift cards, handed out to employees for Christmas every year, to purchase the phone.
