New iPhone App to Combat Taliban

A U.S. solidier has developed an Apple iPhone app for combat purposes, like tracking down the Taliban, CBS News reported.

Developed by artillery specialist Captain Jonathan Springer, who is stationed in eastern Afghanistan, the app helps soldiers map, plot and photograph waypoints on a battleground and convey coordinates to supporting units. The app can also be used to direct artillery fire or call in helicopter support for injured soldiers.

Called Tactical Nav, the app is expected to arrive in the Apple App Store next month.

Springer, 31, who said the idea for the app came to him in a dream, put $26,000 of his own money into the project.
