Even though there’s a chance that no one will get to peep Apple’s next iPhone, tickets for Apple’s World Wide Developers conference sold out as quickly as can be expected.
The last time Apple planned a spectacle event (the iPad 2 launch), Amanda Foote walked away from her spot in line at the Apple store with $900 in her pocket instead of an iPad 2. WWDC is no different, and this time it’s the developers who are cashing in. A number of eBay auctions list conference passes at more than $3,000, with some auctions climbing as high as $4,000 within two days of the event selling out.

Originally, conference passes were priced at $1,599, but that price died just hours after the tickets became available on March 28, as the event sold out almost immediately. Some developers took this opportunity to make a little extra dough, auctioning off their passes for far more than their original value. Some auctions displaying Buy it Now options listed the tickets at $3,800, $3,950, and even $4,499. Apple can’t do much about the sales at this point, since Apple allows for pass transfers in case a company is assigning employees to the event post purchase.
The WWDC event is always a valuable experience for developers, and apparently it can be even more valuable for those who had the foresight to buy an extra ticket for profit. Though unfortunately, it looks like some developers will have to cut their food budget down to Ramen and ketchup to afford this year’s conference.
