Technology experts and millions around the world are awaiting the start of the Worldwide Developers Conference that starts on June 5th, 2011 where it is expected that Apple will announce their iPhone 5, Apples next generation iPhone.
The buzz around the conference is the expectation that the iPhone 5 will include an 8 megapixel camera. This has not been confirmed yet, but Sir Howard Stringer, president of Sony Corp, was discussing the Tsunami in Japan and mentioned that the disaster would have an impact on the camera sensors that were being made by Sony for the iPhone.
Stinger has stated that he takes note of the irony of Sony making the best camera in the world, and then providing it to Apple. While he did not specifically state which Apple device he was referring to, it is most likely for the iPad or the next generation iPhone.
Why the buzz is around the next generation iPhone is because Sony does not currently provide camera sensors to Apple for any device on the shelves. This would leave us to believe that Stringer was referring to the upcoming release of the new iPhone.
In a report from 2010, analyst from Rodman Renshaw reported that Apple had inked a deal with Sony to provide these camera sensors for the iPhone 5 and stated that the iPhone 4 would use sensors from Omnivision. Well the iPhone 4 did indeed use a 5 megapixel camera made by Omnivision.
So what do readers think about the 8 mega pixel camera rumor? Let us know your thoughts.
