Fring brings group video calling to iPhone and Android with new beta

fring group calling betaFring, the perennial thorn in the side of Skype and other VoIP apps on the mobile platform, has now brought group video calling to the table in its latest beta.

Having been the first to launch video calling on the iPhone, fring’s limited beta is available for both iPhone and Android devices, and brings free video calls with up to four people in a mosaic layout as show to the right.

According to Cnet the app is currently a little rough around the edges, it is called a beta for a reason, but does what it says on the tin.

The beta is limited in numbers, but if you’re keen to give it a go you can apply here, submitting your UDID or IMEI number and those of three friends (you have to have people to test it with obviously). In the meantime, if you haven’t tried fring, it allows both free video and VoIP calls between fring users over 3G or Wi-Fi, and even has fringOut should you want to call a landline or other non-fring number. The app is available for iOS, Android and even Symbian.
