Today a few videos of what could be iOS 5 have been making the rounds. The highlight of the videos is a peak at an updated multitasking scheme, one which is quite like that of Expose in Mac OS. This means the tiny horizontal bar on the bottom is gone, having been replaced with windowed views of the running apps.
In Tinhte’s video above you can see it all in action. With the double-tab of the home button a multitasking page is revealed, full of the apps that are running at the moment. At the top of that page is the Spotlight search tool that currently occupies the first screen of iOS devices. It’s a slick implementation of proven OS X tools on iOS and ones that seem like they will deliver a legitimate improvement over the current task-switching system. At least as long as they are real… the video looks believable and Tinhte has been reliable in the past, but you can never be too sure with Apple leaks.
The second video shows off a 64GB white iPhone 4. We’ve heard about leaked 64GB iPhone 4s in the past as well as white iPhone 4s, so while this is surprising enough to see it isn’t nearly as exciting as the possibility of a new multitasking system.
The multitasking video gives us more questions than answers. The obvious one is, is this real, and if it is what happens if you have more than 9 windows open? Will there be any sorting/prioritization (or it is just another list)? How about new gestures to control the windows (swipe them off screen etc.) or is it just the hold-and-close system seen currently in iOS? Hopefully we’ll learn more soon, but all signs are still pointing towards September.
