Apple is apparently testing a new iPhone that is configured for the T-Mobile USA GSM bands. T-Mobile has said nothing publicly about getting ready to launch the iPhone, and our T-Mobile US sources say that they are not currently aware of a plan yet to offer the iPhone.
The way we see it, it is likely that Apple is testing ahead of the proposed AT&T acquisition of T-Mobile U.S. and as part of that they need to test the additional GSM bands that T-Mobile uses. We suspect that the testing will precede T-Mobile customers’ ability to obtain the iPhone once the merger gets closer to approval.
