A fire at Foxconn, the manufacturer of iPhone’s and iPads has lead to talk of a delay in the iPhone 5, or iPhon3 4s release date as well as a shortage of iPad 2′s. Prior to the fire, rumours had already begun surfacing about delays to the iPhone 5.
The release seemed to have already been pushed back from some time in July until perhaps as late as November.
This fire at the Foxconn factory could well push this date back further. The iPad 2′s production will have to be moved to a separate factory, meaning that the production of the next generation iPhone 4s may in fact be delayed.
All we can hope is that that Foxconn can get their plant up and running as soon as possible. Otherwise we may not be seeing a new generation iPhone at all in 2011.
The shortage of iPad 2′s can also be expected to last for the foreseeable future.
“At the scene, there are currently more than 10 fire engines, ambulances and 10 police cars. … The explosion occurred in a “polishing plant” … due to a special … super-light dust … used to clean the screens of the iPads. It is flammable … someone was smoking. … [But] the Chinese police initial investigation … ruled out human factors.

All we can see is smoke everywhere. … A witness told the [TV] reporter that the explosion happened at [7.10am EDT]. … The reporter was told to stay away … because there might be a second explosion. … The explosion happened in A5 building … the production line of iPad 2. … This tragedy will have a great impact on the iPad 2 production line.
…
Two people were killed and 16 injured, 3 seriously.”
