In a statement last week, Apple said it would issue a fix for iPhones and iPads to keep devices from storing your location data.

BGR has learned that the update, iOS
version 4.3.3, will be available within two weeks. This will be the
third update to iOS since version 4.3 was released in March.

Since then, there have been a ton of problems with iOS including FaceTime glitches and 3G connection problems with Verizon iPads.
The update will stop phones from recording your location when
location data is turned off from the Settings menu. (Right now that
option only keeps apps from seeing your location.) It will also block
your location data from being backed up to your computer when you sync
with iTunes.
