New iPhone with 4G (TD-LTE) support confirmed for China?

According to China Mobile’s president, the next new iPhone to be introduced in China will have support for TD-LTE.

Reportedly, China Mobile and Apple have already reached and agreement about this – although the new LTE-capable iPhone will most likely be available to Chinese customers only sometime in 2012.

Since TD-LTE is not really different from standard LTE, the same chip inside a handset “can access both networks.” Thus, we should expect Apple to launch LTE iPhones outside China, too – later this year, or maybe in 2012. Of course, this wouldn’t be a surprise at all, since Verizon already offers LTE services, and AT&T should have its own LTE up and running before the end of 2011.

Expected to be announced in September, Apple’s fifth-generation smartphone may be called iPhone 4GS. It should come with a larger display, a dual-core processor, and an 8MP camera. And now it looks like it will have LTE capabilities, too.
