iPhone records Grandmother shooting her son-in-law

Thinking ahead and anticipating a verbal confrontation when he picked up his son for a court-ordered visitation, a Florida man activated his iPhone and was able to record his mother-in-law firing three shots at him, striking him twice.

The audio/video tape, which was released by the Broward County Police Department, aided investigators in determining what happened at the Tamarac residence when Salvatore Miglino arrived to get the boy for his weekly Wednesday visitation.

The evidence obtained from the iPhone helped Broward police put 66-year-old Cheryl Hepner behind bars for attempted premeditated murder in the first degree, according to the police report made available by the Smoking Gun.

When police officers responded to the scene they found Miglino sitting in his car with gunshot wounds to the shoulder and ribcage. He told police Hepner had met him in the yard carrying the 3-year-old boy’s pillow and bag. That’s when he hit record on his phone and left it on the seat of the car.

The iPhone captured Hepner telling Miglino that his father-in-law, Sheldon Hepner, who was asleep in the house, wished to speak with him. Miglino refused the offer and said that is when Cheryl Hepner pointed a .22 caliber Berretta at him and began shooting.

The wounded man can be heard screaming, “I can’t believe you did that! What are you, crazy? I can’t believe you shot me!”

“Get the **** off me!” Hepner can be heard screaming on the tape.

Police recovered the weapon, along with 2 shell casings in the yard, and found one spent shell jammed in the gun. They confiscated the iPhone belonging to Miglino for evidence. Miglino was transported to Broward General Hospital, where he was treated and released.

After interviewing neighbors and watching the video recorded by the iPhone, police arrested Hepner and charged her with the attempted murder of Miglino. She is being held without bond in a Broward County jail.
