An unusually short life in its battery is so far the biggest challenge for a lot of users of the iPhone 4S. But there is another issue raised in online support forums that has recently been deemed as similarly frustrating. This is the problem on call muting.
Owners of iPhone 4S are reportedly experiencing sudden muting when they make calls. What happens is that when phone calls are made, the caller’s audio immediately fails while on connection. And despite the hundreds of thread in Apple’s support forums and others relating to it all over the internet, this is a concern that is said to be overlooked in the update of the upcoming iOS 5.1
The interesting part of the 4S issue is that the recipients of the calls have not reported a similar problem. In fact, they reported that they can still hear the frustration of the caller on the other side when the call is muted. So the question being asked at the moment is what is responsible for the issue?
iPhone 4S
Currently, no one really knows the root of the problem. Initially, the software is charged as the culprit. But, there are still plenty of factors in play such as the failure of the smartphone’s hardware and its ability to link with cellular phone networks.
Until Apple creates permanent remedies to the existing problem, here are some possible solutions that iPhone 4 users can follow in case they experience voice muting. This can be summed up into the 3 R’s
First is to reset. To do this, hold the wake or sleep and home button together. Wait until the screen turns black and the Apple logo appears. The second is to restore. This is to plug the iPhone 4S into the computer, utilize iTunes and repair it from the recent backup.
The last is to restore again. Do the second procedure one more time to restore the handset into a brand new phone. The three troubleshooting techniques are exactly what most technicians of Apple do when a replacement of the phone is needed so it is better to do it initially in order to try other means of phone restoration. If none works, SIM card replacement, using Bluetooth for the headset or calling through Siri may also work.
If none of the aforementioned solutions still solve the problem, take the phone to a technician in AppleCare to have it checked. Some forums say that replacing iPhone 4S may still be an acceptable remedy to the problem.
