Don’t you hate it when you find a parking spot in the city and end up staring at all the signs in front of it telling you when you can and can’t park there?
It can be a confusing and costly experience if you don’t get it right.
Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to push a button to tell you right away if you are in a good spot? Well, now there is.
Finding a legal parking spot in New York City can cause a driver to question his or her intelligence.
Park here from this time to that time, on this day, or that day.
Get it wrong and it could cost you a whopping ticket or worse, get your car towed to the dreaded pound.
Michael Fasano could have just complained like the rest of us when he got his ticket, but instead this money manager came up with an idea, that a lot of wish we thought of first. It is an iPhone app called: “Can I Park Here?”
“Some poles have three signs on them and you don’t know which ones apply to you. We wanted to come up with a very simple app that lets you know if you can park here. Yes or no,” Fasano said.
This is how it works.
You turn on the app, take a picture of the confusing sign you want to park in front of and the program figures it all, by checking your GPS location, time of day, and cross references it with the New York City’s street parking data base.
“If we were here at 8:30 this morning, this would pop up saying parking not allowed,” Fasano said.
The program costs $1.99 and works in all five boroughs.
It even has a timer for when a meter is about to expire.
The makers of the program say it is 95%, but if you get a ticket using their program they say you are on your own.
You have to agree to a disclaimer in order to use it and you should always check on your own that you are parked in legal spot.
Fasano says that they plan to expand the app to include other cities.
