It’s official: Apple sets Sept. 9 for likely iPhone 6 unveiling

Apple wishes it could say more — and so do gadget lovers.

The notoriously tight-lipped tech giant confirmed on Thursday it is holding a Sept. 9 event with a bare-bones invite that read: “Wish we could say more.”

The date comes as no surprise to the Apple faithful who have been speculating for months about the possibility of two new iPhones, including a 5.5-inch “phablet.”

Industry watchers also expect Apple to launch a wearable product this year, most likely a long-rumored smartwatch.

Apple has introduced a new iPhone every two years since the inception of the device in 2007.

Since 2011, the company has chosen fall to release the latest phone upgrade, usually a few days before the end of its fourth-quarter in late September.

But investors have grown antsy over the last year waiting for Apple to roll out innovative new products, despite vague reassurances from Cook that the “next big thing” is just around the corner.

“We’ve got some great things that we’re working on and that I’m very, very excited about,” Cook said in April.

The last new product was the iPad in 2010.
