Apple says it’s trying to work through crowds faster by opening stores early and hiring more staff:
To accommodate demand for iPhone 3G, all Apple Retail Stores will now open at 8:00 a.m. every day but Sunday. We’re also adding staff to help you get up and running as quickly as possible.
This strikes me as somewhat odd because the problem doesn’t seem to be that the stores aren’t open enough hours to sell all the phones they have in stock but that they don’t have enough phones in stock.
If they could get enough phones, then customers would benefit from longer hours and more employees.
