New iPhone gains Apple new fans in China

Immediately after Apple unveiled its new iPhone SE this week, Beijing resident Li Sheng went online to check out the new phone as a possible replacement for his Huawei Ascend Mate 7.

Li describes himself as frugal and practical. “I never even looked at Apple’s phones — the iPhone 6 or 6s,” he said. “But the moment I saw the price of the iPhone SE and the phone, I wanted to buy one.”

Li is exactly the kind of consumer whom Apple hopes to attract to its new iPhone lineup.

First reviews are in: What critics think of the iPhone SE

The day after Apple CEO officially introduced the 4-inch iPhone SE to the world, we’re getting the first reviews — or at least, the first impressions of tech reporters who got to test out the brand new phones.

What’s the verdict? For the most part, they see the phone as an upgrade from the similarly sized iPhone 5s. The new device contains many of the features of the larger iPhone 6 and 6s models, but at a more affordable price.

The iPhone SE starts shipping next week, priced at $399 for 16 GB or $499 for 64 GB. Here’s a roundup of some of the early reviews:

“Smaller and cheaper”

CNET’s Scott Stein got some hands-on experience with the new phone at the launch event Monday. He says it may look like an iPhone 5s, “but inside the specs have been massively upgraded.”

iPhone 7: Why would Apple remove the headphone jack?

It’s a controversial move, but there would be some benefits to getting rid of the 3.5mm port

It’s one of the longest-standing and most controversial rumours surrounding the upcoming iPhone 7: that it will have no headphone jack.

According to two leaked case designs for Apple’s next handset, the company rolled the dice and will get rid of the 3.5mm industry standard port in September and encourage users to adopt Lightning port headphones.
