Unlock and Jailbreak iPhone 4/4S iOS 5.0.1: Did Siri for cars fail

Having been launched in Q3 of 2011, along with the iPhone 4S unlock and jailbreak iPhone 4/4s iOS 5.0.1 called EasyRa1n, hacking Siri seems to be on many a mind. Demos have already seen Siri being hooked up to a Viper car remote with the user turning to voice commands to turn the vehicle on and off.

Known as Brandon, the hacker did reveal a part of his approach to hack in. The “Siri Proxy” plugin I wrote handles interaction with a php script that runs on my web server. The php script, which I developed months ago for personal use, allows me to send commands to my car which has a Viper SmartStart module installed.” Commands accepted are Vehicle Arm, Vehicle Disarm, Vehicle Start, Vehicle Stop, Vehicle Pop Trunk, and Vehicle Panic.

The EasyRan untethered jailbreak and Unlock utility for iPhone 4/4S and iPad 2 on iOS 5.0.1 has been updated to version 0.2, and now includes a Windows release alongside the Mac OS X version and it’s available on www.EasyRa1n.com.

A day after the first tools for jailbreaking an iPad 2 or iPhone 4S were released for Mac users, the iPhone Dev Team has updated their utility to work with Windows.

The process is a bit more involved since it relies on a command-line utility that walks you through the process one step at a time for debugging purposes. But if you don’t want to wait for the Windows version of the tools to get a graphical user interface, now you don’t have to.
